Spiro in spiral…compass pose.
I've recently come across a wonderful form of bodywork called
Structural Integration Therapy. Also known as Rolfing, this
kind of deep myofascial unfolding is both intense and life-
transforming. First conceived in the 1930's by Dr. Ida P.
Rolf, Structural Integration evolved out of a number of
sources including osteopathy, yoga and the work of Dr. Moshe
Feldenkrais. During a session, a client is guided through
specific movements while the practitioner manipulates the
connective tissue until it operates efficiently in
conjunction with the muscles and bones. The sensations
experienced during a Rolfing session make deep tissue
massage seem like light feather tickling.
It's really intense!
However, the reward of a more balanced, evenly aligned and
tension tamed body is totally worth the hour of pressing,
pulling, pushing and digging.
Many of you have chronic pain, muscular or skeletal
imbalances. The combination of acupuncture and Rolfing
offers the best of both worlds. When my disc herniations
decided to make my lower back hate on "easy" positions
such as sitting and bending forward, I sought alterna-
healing modalities such as acupuncture and
Rolfing. I couldn't believe how quickly my range of
motion, my pain and extreme sensitivity to shifts in
movement improved. From the subtlety and pinpoint
precision of the needling to the depth of manual
manipulations of the lumbosacral region, I'm now
hooked on this bodywork combo.
To experience Rolfing, I highly recommend New York
practitioner, Spiro Theofilatos. He's got the most
incredible sense of touch, knowing just the right amount
of pressure to give with total attunement to your body's
level of comfort and need.

The secret’s out: Lululemon boasts some of the best yoga and pilates instructors around town, offering FREE classes to the community! I had the privilege of both assisting and leading two consecutive pilates mat classes in April at Lulu’s East 66th Street locale. I readily volunteered my teaching services because it feels good supporting a company that believes in promoting health, fitness and community-building endeavors, sans profit on classes. What a pleasure it was to see eager, shining faces with ready-to-workout bods in fashionable gear, all before 9am on a Saturday morning. Very impressive. Classes run 1 hr. in length, finishing just before the store opens. No need to bring a mat…Lululemon supplies them! And when you’re finished class, check out their amazing line of workout apparel (cool men’s wear included). Lululemon designers know how to make a mighty fine cut so that you can look even hotter burning calories:)
